Tip of the Week, 24.3.10: Contractions and Full Stops

A contraction of a word has the same first and last letter as the word. For example, Mister is Mr.

Unless the contraction is at the end of a sentence, as above, it does not have a full stop after it like an abbreviation does.

So remember, if you write Mr xyz, do not use a full stop after Mr.
